Being Black ruined the movie?

So we watched hunger games last night, and although I really don't like "People killing people" movies I thought the acting was awesome and I loved the characters! However what's the deal with this huge Racial issue in this article? I can understand that some readers may have had a certain picture in their head of the characters, but is it really that big a deal to have black people playing those characters? Did the color of their skin really ruin the movie or what you imagined of it? Come on, we've worked so hard and people have sacrificed and suffered in order to be equal. Why do people need to segregate us socially by making these idiotic comments?

It's really sad to sit here and read junk like this and know that there are still people out there who think certain races are better or above others. What I have to say to people like that is, get over it! Get over yourself because if you keep letting all of that hate and ugliness pile up inside you, you will have no place in a happy life.

It just seems so incredibly ridiculous to me that people would behave this way, it's childish and hateful. You know what comes to my mind when I hear someone say something racist or I see something racist on TV? I get this really bad feeling inside like there's something evil there, like you're staring at the Devil himself through those people, then I think how sad that there will be no place in heaven for them if they don't change. So if you are one of those people, do you want people to think that about you?

I may be a little sensitive, but my mother is Philippino and I grew up watching people treat her badly or think she was uneducated because she has a thick accent. I can't tell you how many times I've gone to the store with her and had to stop someone in their tracks and tell them that they need show my mother respect and not treat her poorly. My sister is the same way only she is much meaner when it happens! The worst part though is that they don't think they're doing anything wrong, they behave that way to others so often it comes naturally to them. Well, for as long as I live racism is something I will never keep my mouth shut about because I have absolutely no tolerance for it. I know there are people out there who would say, "Just let it go and be the bigger person." Sorry, but being quiet about something like that just tells those people that there are no consequences for being a total pile of manure and go ahead and hurt people because no one will stand up to you! Uh no! Sorry but I'm not the kind of person to sit around and not say anything.

Sorry for the rant but this just made me so mad and I just had to vent!

xoxo

Amen Sista! Not only are they racist, but they're stupid as well... in the book Rue and the people of her District are clearly described as having "dark brown" skin. Thank you for speaking out and voicing what the majority of us feel!
Hugs,
Yvonne

Things that have happened lately make me realize that even though we've come so far, we have so far to go. My daughter is pregnant with a biracial baby, and I think about what kind of world she will have to grow up in. I was at work the other day (I work in retail), and a cashier asked me to go check on a lady in a certain department. I rounded the corner and saw she was black. I turned around. I know if she were white it would not have been an issue. I refuse to take part in racial profiling, which is exactly what that was.
By the way, I bet your mom is adorable :)

Totally agree! Toni K that happens too to hispanics! I'm hispanic and we don't get waited on as quicky at resturants and at stores. We get followed and I'm like seriously? It makes me so mad. You would think 2012 they would know better....nope! Racism is alive and thriving...such sadness. Cannot blame it on just the media. We all have free will. Its our choice to believe or not believe. Some people just believe and want to be ignorant and uneducated. I work as a school teacher with special needs kids. I had a parent say some crazy stuff to me about the neighborhood the school is because it has hispanic naturally in his mind...drugs etc... I was dumb founded..didn't know what to say. Mind you now..he adores u because his son has improved so much..but yeah..sad sad world we live in..

As long as a label is placed on a person by the color of their skin or a region in which they live in, racisim will continue. I saw a news broadcast yesterday where a group of people were counceling their kids to not do certain things because "white" people will profile them. I'm ENRAGED - Why not council your children - "We don't behave this way because the behaviour is unacceptable." Racism comes from EVERY social group and I'm with you - it is really driven by hate and fear. We will never achieve true freedom until the "labels" are removed.

Interesting that you bring posted this, we talked about this in my Sociology class last night. My question to the people who are saying these cruel words, "Did you read the book?" Because the book describes Rue as having dark skin, dark hair and brown eyes.

Sad that we still live in that type of society.

It saddens me. It should not matter the color or your skin, your accent, sexual orientation - ANYTHING - we are all people with feeling, hopes and dreams. We should all live by the golden rule - treat others at you want to be treated! Thanks for your commentary - I enjoyed the movie and I was surprised by the racial comments people were making!

Amen! I'm in an interacial marriage and we therefore have a gorgeous biracial little girl. It sickens me to think of the ignorance still alive and thriving in this world. I try not to worry about all the stupidity my daughter may face. But our faith in God will give us strength to get thru it. Great post.

FINALLY someone who isn't afraid to stand up to this evil racism. My husband is white and I am hispanic, dark skinned woman, some people give us hateful looks when they se us together. I can't believe that in this day in age people are still racist. It shocks me to see that we've progressed so much in other ways, but we've got a long way to go with this racism issue. Its ugly, despicable, bad, and just down right evil.
